• Spagnuolo

The Lucille M. & Richard F. X. Spagnuolo Gallery was established through the generosity of Lucille and Richard Spagnuolo, whose longtime commitment to Georgetown has helped shape the university’s arts landscape. Richard Spagnuolo (D’67) is a graduate of Georgetown’s School of Dentistry, and together the Spagnuolos have been dedicated collectors and champions of the arts for decades. Their philanthropy has directly supported the growth of Georgetown’s art department and galleries, ensuring that students and the wider community have access to transformative artistic experiences.

The Spagnuolo Gallery’s history reflects the evolution of the arts at Georgetown. The first space, created in the early 2000s, was repurposed from professors’ offices; the second, dedicated in 2009, became the first formal gallery space on campus. Their support through two Capital Campaigns helped solidify the gallery’s presence, while a later campaign transformed a former black box theatre into the university’s third and premier gallery.

Today, the Spagnuolo Gallery is a cornerstone of Georgetown University Art Galleries, hosting exhibitions that place great art and socially engaged artists at the center of critical conversations. In tandem with the Maria and Alberto de la Cruz Gallery, the gallery seeks to promote cross-cultural understanding, advance social justice, broaden global consciousness, and create opportunities for audiences not only to view art but to connect with it in meaningful and memorable ways.
