Ritual Across Time: Lorraine O’Grady’s Miscegenated Family Album and Egyptology

Wednesday, November 12

12:30 - 2:00 PM

Lucille M. and Richard F. X. Spagnuolo Gallery

Light refreshments will be served.

Join Guest Curator Donna Honarpisheh and Georgetown professor Lingxin Zhang for a conversation about the ancient Egyptian rituals represented in Lorraine O'Grady's Miscegenated Family Album. In this Spagnuolo Gallery exhibition, O'Grady has paired images of her family with representations of Queen Nefertiti, teasing out the parallels between them. The conversation will explore themes of the archaic, materiality, family, and gender. Uncover the allure of the ancient Egyptian practices that captivate so many people, including O'Grady.

During this drop-in style program in the Spagnuolo Gallery, topics will change every 15-20 minutes. We encourage you to stop by, grab a custom cookie with an Egyptian symbol, and stay for as long as you are able to do so.
